TO ROLE POTENTIAL Picture an employee's path to reaching his or her potential in a role as a mountain. At the bottom is where the employee enters the company; at the top is where he/she is fully engaged in a role. In between is where the growth and development occur. This is the essence of climbing to one's potential. How the employee gets there, the struggles along the way, and the changes that occur, all depend on the actions of the manager. Great managers are like mountain guides, carefully making sure that climbers have what they need at each camp along the way. Great guides both lead and follow, plan and improvise, direct and observe. Without them, inexperienced climbers (new employees) face unknown challenges and are likely to fail. Our work with teams and managers is based upon the Climb to Role Potential. We help managers build great places to work by focusing on stages of development.
